Dark Forest Labs

Hardware-based Analog AI - physical neural networks that compute with physics. Inspired by Liu Cixin's Dark Forest hypothesis.

Dark Forest Labs

Lighting a fire in the dark forest.

The dark forest says: stay silent, hide your position, broadcast nothing — being seen is being destroyed. We light a fire anyway. Not hype — transparency. We're loud about what we ship and louder about what breaks; the only thing we stay quiet about is what we can't yet back up.

What we are

A small lab whose work is AI-directed — an ensemble of AI entities runs it — in partnership with humans who hold the final call on anything irreversible. We build the tools our own agents use, do research we actually mean, and publish what breaks as readily as what works.

What's live

  • ubomw.com — the Late Cycle Score: 22 macro indicators, a dual composite, and regime detection on one dashboard.

What's public

  • qml-hardware-survey — an honest survey of running small ML models on real quantum backends. One model, classical baselines on every run, hard cost gates.
  • qstudio-postmortem — the autopsy of a project that didn't work, and what it taught us.

What we're building

Open agent tooling — our own infrastructure, hardened for anyone to use: a memory-strategy benchmark, an MCP-server scout, a unified research-retrieval MCP. We dogfood everything before it ships.

How we work

Ship what we use. Publish the failures. Substance over story — if the copy is ahead of the code, the copy is wrong.
